I know there is not enough to fill a whole archive with Kirby's OMAC, but what if the difference were made up of essays and character designs/othe related art work, such as found in the Jack Kirby Collector? I don't know how much might exist, but considering its Kirby, an annotated/extra packed Archive could fly. I saw some 4th World design watercolors in an issue of collector (including a green Mr. Miracle), and I would love to see if there is similar OMAC stuff. Plus I think it's a great book. IP: Logged |

I'd buy it. The cover of OMAC # 1 had an adverse affect on me when I was a mere lad. Something about that Build-A-Friend. Disturbing. ------------------ "A commander in chief leads the military built by those who came before him. That is why we were able to win the [first] Gulf War - because we were commanding a military rebuilt in the 1980s." - Dick B. Cheney, Speech to Southern Center on International Studies IP: Logged |

With the 8 issues of Kirby, as well as I think nearly 5 or 6 8-page back-ups (in Kamandi and Warlord)...I think we could get pretty close to filling up an archive (heck, if need be, throw in DCCP 61 with Superman/OMAC...written by Len Wein and art by George Perez!) ------------------ IP: Logged |

Omac v1 #1-8, Kamandi #59, and Warlord #37-39 would fill up one volume. That would leave only Warlord #42-47 and DC Comics Presents #61 (and Byrne's mini) unreprinted. IP: Logged |

I'd proabably get it just for the Kamandi tie-in - but I'd much prefer Kamandi. An interesting idea but I don't think it very high on DC's list. IP: Logged |

The first OMAC I ever saw was Jim Starlin's hyped-to-the-max ultra-violence. After than, Mishkin & Cohn's seemed a bit limp. But THEN I read Jack Kirby's run-- and over the years, have come to realize that M&C's run was more a 2nd-rate attempt to drag tings back to the way Kirby intended. Jack's 8 issues are the REAL THING!!! --and probably one of my favorite things he did for DC in that period. That said, ever since I read that the "Water Stealers" was intended as a 3-parter-- and ended ABRUPTLY without the concluding episode-- I've wished SOMEBODY would go back and do it to finish the original run out properly. Karl Kesel & STEVE RUDE come to mind... I realize that to do this would completely invalidate everything Starlin and co. did... but would that be such a bad thing? (And in light of the pre-CRISIS scheme of things... would it even MATTER???) IP: Logged |

I remember liking the Starlin take as far as illustration went. I'd certainly pick up an OMAC archive (even two if the Byrne mini would be reprinted in the second complete with covers along with the DCCP issue), but doubt DC will get to this for awhile if ever. My guess would be that they would reprint the Kirby 70s stuff (in archive form) in the following order if they do it: Kamandi Hey, how about a catch all archive? In the Days of the Mob, Spirit World, 70s Sandman, Atlas,Dingbats (my least favorite), Avenger (I know, copyrights problems there, and did he do more than one or two issues?) Oh well, at least we are getting Challengers soon. Hopefully they will include the Kirby cover from the (Super DC Giant?) that he did, preferably re-inked by Mike Royer (I've been waiting to see something like that in the Kirby Collector). I liked Byrne's OMAC, but I'm not sure I'd care about any other. But I'd still buy an OMAC book, even if it had non-Kirby material. IP: Logged |
